I am a member, not a moderator. As I see it, the intent was more aimed at lengthy back-and-forth discussions between two or three individual members, merely suggesting that when a group discussion reaches that point, it should be taken privately rather than on the list. This is a common situation which shows up from time to time on nearly all email lists I've been a member of.

There's no need for anyone to leave the group because of this.
