What better way to prepare for a wild ocean cliff DXpedition than chase TP's with portables and FSL's in the rain at a local park? Like at Grayland the Chinese were putting in good signals, although the primary benefit here was foul weather training for the Rockwork 2 cliff in mid-October.

Asian conditions were decent but not really up to last September's usual standard, with a lot of obscure stations staying down in the noise. The CRI stations in the middle band were the best performers with 963, 1017 and 1323 all managing potent signals at times, and the others on 1044 and 1206 having their decent moments. 837-Harbin was having good musical peaks until local 850-KHHO wiped out both it and 864-KBS with its open carrier sign on at 1345. A presumed 936-Anhui had fair level Chinese conversation at 1350 but bailed before a decent recording. Best Asian signal of the morning here (S9) was from 738-BEL2 at 1326, with animated male-female conversation at that silenced all of the KCBS splatter. Overall it was an interesting morning, if only to rediscover how to chase DX in the rain.
