The big gun NHK2 stations do leave their carriers on for quite some time after the actual s/off, Paul, even if the s/off is at 1540UT, but I don't know why.

Had 693 at 1435UTC peeling the paint off in Alaska today, and at 1440UTC, they did their usual sign off... station id, some official sounding song then the sign off music/chimes.   They arent listed as signing off till 1540UTC.  And whats odd is Id swear at least the 774 transmitter is still on air an hour later with a dead/open carrier.
