Re: Tecsun AM Bandwidth Circuit(s)

None of your choices is correct! Both these radios use the Silicon Labs DSP chips and the IF bandwidths are set by software selection of AM bandwidth in the chip. The manufacturer chooses the bandwidths (I believe 6 different bandwidths are available). You can find the SiLabs DSP datasheet on the SiLabs webpage and read all about it!

Does anyone know for sure how the Tecsun PL-310 and Tecsun PL-880 control the AM bandwidths they can be set to receive?

The possible means could be one or more of these...
  • Bandwidth of an r-f amplifier center-tuned to the incoming carrier frequency
  • Bandwidth of an i-f frequency amplifier in the receiver
  • Corner frequency of a low-pass filter in the audio amplifier section
Or as an alternate, could anyone supply contact info for a Tecsun design engineer that could respond accurately to this to this inquiry?
