I have literally hundreds of portable radios and SONY products have been extremely long lasting for me. They also are very good at rejecting noise and interference. If you don't need Short Wave, my favorite program listening AM FM is the SONY ICF-801. A little hard to find, and compare prices since it sells over a wide dollar range.  If you want SW, the ICF-SW 7600GR can still be found and performs very well. The controls do exactly what they say, no hidden features or sequences where controls do completely different things depending on how long you hold them down, or if the radio power is on or off. Either enter the frequency you want or use the scanning features. No tuning knob, but separate up and down buttons for both fine tuning and steps in in a band. - FARMERIK
