The final tweak to the new "Pest Control" FSL-powered PL-380 was to add a shielded ground to the two Litz wires as they run between the cabinet and FSL antenna,, in order to stop them from becoming part of the RF reception pattern (and compromising the null depth). This final change has had a significant effect on the nulling capability, which now is sufficient to put any semi-local (Seattle) into silence, and any local (Tacoma and Puyallup) way down into the noise (see attached photos).
The full "Heathkit-like" assembly instructions for this model are being drafted, and should be complete within a few days. Fortunately, all of the construction parts for this model are readily available, and at a construction cost of around $90, the model should provide a lot of hobby fun for the $$. Happy hunting!
