Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-22

Gary DeBock

Hello All,
There was somewhat of an improvement in Asian signal strength here this morning, although it seemed to benefit the Asian mainland stations at the expense of the Japanese big guns. Despite the improvement the Korean and Chinese signals still didn't quite reach the levels of Saturday and Sunday, although the generous sunrise enhancement continued right up until 1500 here. The session started off in a promising way with fair audio from 558-HLQH, 603-HLSA, 738-BEL2 and 1044-CRI from 1315-1330, along with very good audio from the Korean big guns on 972, 1053, 1134 and 1566. 648-VOR was also back in a big way this morning, reaching good audio (through a mystery buzzing noise) with its Chinese service from 1330-1355. The Japanese big guns were not especially strong during the same period, with 594, 747, 774 and 828 taking turns reaching good audio during brief moments. Unlike yesterday some second-tier Chinese stations on 603, 639, 936, 1017 and 1044 did have fair audio in and out from 1400-1455, with 936-Anhui (presumed) playing long music sets around 1410, and 639-CNR1 managing some fair audio (in KFI splatter) with Chinese news by a male announcer at the very late hour of 1450.
Unfortunately some other Chinese signals on 918, 927, 1323 and 1377 never rose above threshold level, but even that was an improvement over yesterday. 1575-VOA once again had a late rally from 1430-1445, reaching good audio for a few seconds in short cycles before it would dive into the noise. Overall the session was a definite improvement over yesterday's lackluster propagation, even though nothing new or exotic was in the mix. If tomorrow continues to show more improvement in Asian mainland propagation, the more obscure Chinese stations on frequencies like 918 and 927 should be able to break into the clear.
