Re: Processer SSB Radios ??

Because I have far more experience using a BFO on a table set for SSB Hams, I have little experience to compare the '600 or '7600 twins for that. All should work though.

In my answer, I mentioned the 1/8th inch mono jacks on the SONY models. That is the antenna input for all bands on those SONY models.

I just tried the mono plug [from one of my SONY amplified antennas,] and it shorts out the antenna when plugged into the PL-600, so it must be a stereo jack. On the '600 the external antenna input is for SW and FM only. For MW & LW you would need to modify the radio circuit or use an external loop next to the radio. On some Tecsuns the stereo input jack will work if you use a stereo to mono adapter. Be careful, with a long plug and adapter sticking out of the radio, it is easy to bend the contacts in the radio jack so they will not connect. On my new PL-390 an adapter also shorted the antenna out, so I ordered a stereo plug and cable which will get three alligator clips on the other end.

We are off the ULR topic here, so I am trying to keep my answers short. Everyone is welcome to email me directly.

Thanks for the rundown.. I would have thought the Sony syncros would
have been better for ssb than the 600/660 tecsun.. do you find that..
and, do any of them have an external antenna socket??

Cheers.

I have both the SONY '7600G and the '7600GR now, and think either will get more listen-able stations than the PL-600 but not by much. Both SONY models have been 100% reliable, and the 1/8th inch mono ant input jacks are for ALL bands [include MW & LW]. They have better or at least as good choices for reducing strong signals too, but that is not a problem here. I do like the music audio best on the PL-600. Sound on the GR is second. The 7600G is third with 'thinner' but very clear sound. Last time I looked the total costs of buying a PL-600 was closer to 2/3 as much as the SONY 'GR. Any of them would be a very good spotter for your ULR's and tune SSB. All three can sound good on headphones or external speakers they 'like'. My opinion is the SONYs have better tuners with more features. - FARMERIK
