Ultralight Longwave DX-- One New Alaskan NDB

Gary DeBock

Hello All,

Conditions to Alaska were fairly decent this morning, finally allowing
the ID of 277-ACE in Homer (a new Ultralight NDB here). Although the
TWEB broadcast had been heard on this frequency previously here in
Puyallup, this was the first morning that weak code ID's could be
received and deciphered (although high sensitivity headphones are
required to dig them out http://www.mediafire.com/?9bj4dam0nae1hpr ).
This was Ultralight NDB #161 here.

This was only the 9th Alaskan NDB received on Ultralights here in
Puyallup, WA (along with 209-CYT, 219-GAV, 233-ALJ, 266-ICK, 358-SIT,
385-OCC, 391-EEF and 394-RWO), while 17 of them were received in one
hour at the "Rockwork" ocean side cliff in Oregon on August 16th
(including the still-needed Alaskan beacons 229-AKW, 251-OSE, 281-CRN,
283-DUT, 385-EHM, 390-HBT, 525-ICW and 530-ADK). The radio used for
this morning's reception was a barefoot ($50) Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight
and a new 8" diameter Longwave FSL antenna (design photo posted at
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?3ihi7a9d924prhg )

73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)
