Unless it's really auroral, Saudi Arabia 1521 is typically the strongest transatlantic here, and by a good margin. 2 megawatts from a coastal site on the Red Sea certainly gets the S-meter moving. Biggest from Africa is usually the 549 Algerian. Best out of Europe? This varies a lot - sometimes only Spain and southern France are delivering the goods, other times UK stations on 693, 882, 909, 1053, 1089, and 1215 are the top performers. Croatia 1134 is another huge one. Hard to say if any of the current Euro stations are up to the levels we used to get out of Kvitsoy, Norway (1314) or Langenberg, Germany (1586, 1593): those were screamers for sure.

The higher number did have an effect in that signals were later than usual in appearing on the band. Through the evening most of the audible signals originated mostly from Europe. Surprisingly later on many were at local sounding levels.
