I can't comment about the PL-660 specifically, since I don't own one. I can tell you that on my PL-380 the section of the whip antenna below the pivot point does not appear to pull out from the top of the case. The best I can do with the radio on its flip stand is to get the antenna about 20 degrees from vertical.
