TECH: more FSL tests, comparing wire

This is mostly about comparing sizes of Litz wire on a ferrite sleeve antenna (FSL), but #22 stranded hookup wire was included as well. I made a smaller FSL in order to minimize how much Litz I had to "waste" on the tests (about 24 feet). I used a "3 inch styrene coupler" found in the plumbing section of stores like Home Depot. Russian 400 mu 100 x 20 x 3 mm bars were used; 14 bars on the form. 1/4 inch spacing between ferrite and coil was used. Final coil O.D. 4.3 inches. The FSL test setup (Helmholtz 40" diameter coils and Rycom 6030 SLM) was used.
Note that the values below each frequency indicate the output of the FSL--higher numbers (toward zero) indicate higher output from the coil. Thus, "-56" is higher output (more sensitive antenna) than "-59" or "-65".

20 turns were used for the FSL coil.

The results appear to show that the big Litz (expensive) gives the highest output (most sensitive antenna). The 175/46 and 100/44 are equal. The #22 hookup wire comes in a distant last place especially when compared with the big Litz.
The small coil used didn't have enough inductance to get down to LF, but my tests with 1200-1400 uH LF coils show the same thing--the big 660/46 Litz is still superior at LF, despite the #46 strand size not supposedly being anywhere close to optimum at LF. But the next two Litz sizes are only a little down in output from the big Litz, so especially where cost is a factor, they would do a decent job for a FSL.
